Welsh rockers Funeral for a Friend reunite because their 'biggest fan' has terminal cancer

Bridgend rock group Funeral for a Friend (FFAF) are reforming to play two gigs in aid of their “biggest fan” who has terminal cancer.

They will play in Cardiff and London in October, to raise at least £5000 for Stuart Brothers and his family.

Stuart, a father of three, is a FFAF super-fan and friend of the band who has been told he may only have weeks to live.

Funeral for a Friend broke up in 2016 after 15 years of touring, but when asked whether they would reform they have always said no because “there was never any reason to.” Until Now.

The band split up three years ago after a UK farewell tour (Gareth Bull)

“Recently, a man who can quite legitimately lay claim to being the world’s biggest FFAF fan (both literally and figuratively!), our friend Stuart ‘Big Stu’ Brothers, has been stricken with a terrible illness which has ultimately led to a terminal prognosis.

"Last month, Stu was given a few short weeks to live by his doctors.

"As Stu’s friends, we wanted to do something to help; particularly for his family and three young sons, who are going through unspeakable trauma right now.

"So, on October 28th and 29th, at the Cardiff Globe and London Shepherd’s Bush Empire respectively, Funeral for a Friend will be performing two more shows to benefit the Brothers’ family,” the band said in a statement addressed to the “FFAF family.”

Funeral For a Friend burst onto the scene in 2003 with their award-winning debut album Casually Dressed and Deep in Conversation, which included four top 20 singles.

They released another six albums before playing their final gig in 2016.

Tickets will go on sale at 10am Friday 9 August
