The Ospreys could face Connacht in a Guinness PRO14 encounter in Swansea the weekend after next.
They had been scheduled to play Challenge Cup matches against Worcester at home and Castres in the coming weeks.
But with Covid-19 causing the suspension of this season’s European competitions, the Liberty Stadium region were left with a potential hole in their fixture list.
But talks are taking place aimed at playing the league match against Connacht that was originally scheduled for November 28 last year before being cancelled after an Ospreys player returned a positive test for Covid-19.
If the new date is agreed, the encounter will take place on the weekend of January 22-24.
"We are in conversation with Connacht and Pro14 to see whether that can be done, otherwise there is such a big block without any rugby for us," said Ospreys head coach Toby Booth.
"We are seeing whether that suits both parties and we should know that in the next 24 hours.”
The Ospreys will want to keep going as they are on a run of five wins in six games. Two of those triumphs were derby successes, with their only defeat coming at the hands of the Scarlets in Llanelli on Boxing Day, with just two points separating the sides.
“We want to keep playing,” said Booth.
“There’s a lot of positivity around the place. Winning does that, the culture you have does that, consistency does that.
“We want to maintain the vibe that we’ve created within the camp.
“I’m also interested in the connectivity within the group and the consistency in performance.”
Cardiff Blues, Dragons and Scarlets have yet to announce any plans for rearrangements.
