Welsh public have clear favourite to replace Alun Wyn Jones as Wales captain next week

Ellis Jenkins appears to be the clear fans' favourite to replace Alun Wyn Jones as Wales captain during the Six Nations.

Jones will be absent with a shoulder injury for the entire Championship, leaving Wayne Pivac with the difficult decision of who to give the armband to.

Dan Biggar, Ken Owens, Justin Tipuric and Jenkins appear to be the candidates, and those names were put to the public vote on Sunday's Scrum V show.

Jenkins topped the poll by some distance, taking 54.4% of the public vote. Owens was second with 18.7%, followed by Tipuric with 15.8& and Biggar on 11.1%.

And Holley agreed with that view, claiming that handing the captaincy to Jenkins would "extend the leadership group" within the squad.

"With Daniel and Ken, you get leadership anyway.

"For me, Ellis Jenkins did a great job, he's playing well, a look to the future as well. Ellis would get it."

Former Ospreys and Wales fly-half James Hook also agreed. When asked if Jenkins would be his choice, Hook said: "I think so, you look at him in the autumn and his performances.

"He obviously captained Wales in the autumn, so I don't see the debate."

Holley added that he thought it unlikely Tipuric would be called up as he is still out injured.

Fellow pundit Gwyn Jones believes Biggar should get the nod as skipper, citing the fact Jenkins cannot be assured of his place in the team.
