Welsh Premiership Cup set for dramatic group stage conclusion that includes winner-takes-all tie in Swansea

The last round of the Indigo Premiership Cup takes place tomorrow with spots still up for grabs in the knockout stages.

Eight teams will qualify for the quarter finals with four from each group going through.

Premiership Cup East

Group leaders Newport and second placed Cardiff have already sealed their places in the quarter finals with home advantage guaranteed.

Both sides will be desperate to end with a win, however, as the team that finishes first will face 4th placed from the west group. This, on paper will give first placed a more favourable draw.

Third and fourth spot are not guaranteed just yet. Pontypridd in 5th place travel north to face RGC who occupy 4th and are just two points ahead of the men from Sardis Road.

There is still a slim chance that RGC and Pontypridd make it through whilst Merthyr who are third miss out. That would involve Merthyr failing to pick up a match day point while Pontypridd pick up five and RGC pick up two losing bonus points.

Ebbw Vale find themselves in sixth and are not able to qualify.

  • Newport - 35
  • Cardiff - 33
  • Merthyr - 23
  • RGC - 21
  • Pontypridd - 19
  • Ebbw Vale - 11

Premiership Cup West

Group leaders Aberavon and second placed Llandovery have both sealed home quarter finals whilst Carmarthen Quins in third have also guaranteed a place in the last eight.

First place is still up for grabs with just a two point margin between Aberavon and Llandovery who face off at Church Bank tomorrow afternoon.

There is also still one place up for grabs in the quarter finals and it’s winner takes all at St Helen’s when Swansea host Bridgend. Swansea are fourth with 15 points while Bridgend are fifth with 13 points.

Llanelli are sixth on five points and unable to qualify.

  • Aberavon - 40
  • Llandovery - 38
  • Carmarthen Quins - 22
  • Swansea - 15
  • Bridgend Ravens - 13
  • Llanelli - 5

All games kick off at 2:30pm on Saturday afternoon.
