Welsh international Aled Brew to become fourth man to represent all four regions as he signs for the Scarlets

Welsh international Aled Brew joins an exclusive club having signed for the Scarlets as short-term injury cover.

The nine-times capped winger follows Liam Davies, Tal Selley and Tavis Knoyle in playing for all four regions.

Having had three spells at the Dragons and also stints with the Ospreys and Cardiff Blues, he now completes the set.

The 34-year-old has been drafted in by the Scarlets following injuries to Johnny McNicholl and Tomi Lewis, plus the likelihood they will supply back three players to Wales’ autumn squad.

McNicholl will be out for up to eight weeks because of ankle damage, while Lewis faces 12 months on the sidelines following knee surgery.

Meanwhile, Leigh Halfpenny and Steff Evans are both strong contenders for places in Wayne Pivac’s autumn international group, which will be named next week.

The Neath-born Brew has had a well-travelled career, operating for Biarritz and Bath, as well as his various stays on home soil.

He has linked up with the Scarlets squad this week ahead of Saturday’s Guinness PRO14 opener at home to Munster.

Head coach Glenn Delaney said: “Unfortunately we have picked up a couple of injuries in the back three with Johnny and Tomi and we expect others to be involved with Wales this autumn.

“We have some talented youngsters coming through, but Aled brings that added top-level experience in the PRO14, TOP 14, Premiership and international rugby as we prepare for what will be a demanding few months for our squad.”
