A new minimum price on alcohol will come into force on March 2 for all retailers in Wales, the government has announced.
Ministers want retailers and bars to charge a minimum of 50p per unit - meaning a can of cider could cost at least £1 and a bottle of wine £4.69.
Health minister Vaughan Gething confirmed the start date in a statement to assembly members.
The policy, aimed at tackling alcohol-related deaths, was due to take effect last summer - however has been struck by a number of delays.
Under the guidelines, a standard-strength pint of beer or cider that contains around 2.5 units of alcohol, will come with a minimum RRP of £1.25.
However, drinks sold in pubs are already well above the 50p per unit minimum price, and therefore won't be affected by the law change.
A similar system has been in place in Scotland since May 2018, where a bottle of whiskey now costs a minimum of £14.
The new law involves a minimum price of 50p per unit of alcohol.
Under the rules, a 70cl bottle of vodka, at a strength of 37.5% abv, costs £13.13.
However, there are now concerns that higher alcohol prices could push some drinkers towards other, more harmful substances.
There were more than 500 alcohol-related deaths and 55,000 alcohol related hospital admissions in Wales in 2017.
Academics estimated that a 50p minimum price will lead to 66 (8.5%) fewer alcohol-attributable deaths.
Similar legislation has been considered for England but is not currently on the table.
