Welsh Government cordons off area where Vaughan Gething was photographed eating chips

People have been questioning why the area where health secretary Vaughan Gething was photographed eating chips has been fenced off.

Last week the health secretary faced some criticism when The Sun newspaper published a photo of him eating chips with his family on a bench in Cardiff Bay.

Mr Gething posted on Twitter: "Really disappointing that The Sun are planning to print a photo of me on a walk with my wife and young son on the weekend. Our five-year-old was hungry and we bought some chips - all within the rules."

The First Minister Mark Drakeford was forced to face questions in the Seneed about why guidance allowing people people to sit and eat when exercising was only brought in after the incident. He denied they were connected.

However the area in the Bay has now being fenced off. Many people approached WalesOnline asking why, if what the health secretary did was within the rules, people have now been prevented from doing the same.

The Welsh Government confirmed they did order the closing off of the area but denied that the new fencing was anything to do with the incident involving the health miniser.

It said that the area was being cordoned off because of the amount of littering.

A spokesman for the Welsh Government said: "The area has seen a significant amount of littering over the past week and has been temporarily closed off until additional recycling bins are installed."

Perhaps Mr Gethingwas something of a trendsetter with many others flocking to also have some chips in the sunshine.
