Welsh football match abandoned over alleged racist abuse

A Welsh football match was abandoned mid-game this weekend over allegations of racism.

The tie between Llanberis and Meliden FC was stopped and abandoned on Saturday when Llanberis player Ifan Mansoor said he was abused.

His team walked off the pitch and the game was terminated.

In a Facebook post, Meliden said the club does not tolerate racism.

Steve Boyle, chairman of the Denbighshire club, told the BBC: "An inquiry will be done by the FAW and we will be holding our own inquiry too.

"As far as we are concerned, there was no racial abuse put towards any Llanberis officials and players. We are having another meeting tomorrow with the players."

Aled Rhys Hughes, assistant manager of Llanberis, said on Twitter that his club had made the decision to remove their players from the field following the alleged remark.

The North Wales Coast Football Association said they were awaiting further information concerning the matter.

In a statement after the game, Meliden FC said: "Our match today with Llanberis was abandoned after an alleged racist remark was made.

"This will now be in the hands of the FAW. Meliden Football Club will not tolerate racism and will fully assist the FAW with their enquiries."

Both clubs have been contacted by WalesOnline for comment.
