Welsh fighter Mason Jones mirrors Conor McGregor record as he defeats Adam Proctor for second world title at Cage Warriors 116

Welsh fighter Mason 'The Dragon' Jones has become the first fighter to hold two Cage Warriors world titles at the same time since Irish superstar Conor McGregor.

The martial artist from Blaenavon defeated Adam Proctor on Saturday evening at Cage Warriors 116, adding the welterweight crown to his collection with a brutal technical knockout in the first round.

The match-up at an empty BEC arena in Manchester, followed his knockout win over Ireland's Joe McColgan for the lightweight title back in March, where Jones once again left viewers in no doubt of his dominance over the roster.

The back and forth slug-fest between the two lasted only one round before Jones, 25, dropped the significantly larger Proctor to the canvas, finishing him with overwhelming ground strikes.

As we've come to expect it was fast and it was vicious from Jones who has made a name for himself fighting out of Celtic Pride gym in Abertillery.

After becoming a two-weight world champion, unbeaten Jones stood proudly with his two belts as he took part in the post fight interview.

He said: “They look good on my shoulders.

"This was a legacy fight for me, and the game plan was to go out there and hurt him and push for the finish.

"This is what I do. I knew I could get him out of there early, and I went in there and showed that."

Jones, who took his perfect record to ten wins and no losses will now hope the win is enough for him to join fellow Welsh fighters such as Jack Shore and Brett Johns in the world's number one MMA promotion, the UFC.

"I will be ready to go again in a week, or two weeks,” Jones said after his win, in a direct message to UFC President Dana White.

“Find me the biggest lightweight monster you can find and I will go out there and dismantle them. Whether it's in Abu Dhabi, which is looking good, or anywhere else, dig me up the biggest monster you can find, and I will put them away in two rounds.”

The match up between Jones and Proctor was the featured bout in the ambitious Cage Warriors Trilogy this week, where the European based promotion held three nights worth of fights in three nights.

Elsewhere on the cards, the self proclaimed king of Cardiff Aaron Khalid defeated Mick Stanton with a slick first round submission, while Merthyr's Oban Elliott lost in the lightweight division to Michael Figlak.
