Welsh cyclist Owain Doull explains his tattoo mistake

Cyclist Owain Doull has revealed he got a tattoo marking the date of his Olympic gold medal victory – but managed to get the date wrong.

The 28 year old, who won in the Team Pursuit event at Rio in 2016, said he posted a picture of it on social media and was horrified when fans pointed out he had got the wrong date inked onto his body.

Speaking on the Watts Occurring podcast, Doull said: “I was super happy with it and thought it looked sick. I put a photo of it on Instagram.

“And then there were comments that said ‘did you not win the Olympics on the 12th?'

“My tattoo said the 13th. I was like ‘this guy doesn’t know what he is talking about - delete that comment.’#

“Another guy comments ‘you sure that is right date’ and by the third guy I thought I should check this now and turns out I was wrong.”

Doull said he then had to go back and have the tattoo 'touched up'.
