Welsh A&E staff dance in hazmat suits to encourage people to respect lockdown rules

Staff at a Valleys A&E department are encouraging people to respect the coronavirus lockdown - by posting a video of themselves dancing in hazmat suits and face masks.

In a bid to boost morale among their frontline colleagues, casualty staff at Merthyr 's Prince Charles Hospital recorded a video of themselves dancing to Aretha Franklin's 1967 hit 'Respect'.

The heartwarming footage shows doctors and nursing staff dancing their way around the department and wearing facemasks and bedpans on their heads.

One worker is even wheeled around in a chair, while another is wheeled on a stretcher as he wears a full hazmat suit and gloves.

The video was posted to social media and has clocked up nearly 30,000 views, as well as hundreds of shares and likes.

A number of people also commented on the post, describing the video as "uplifting", "brilliant" and "fabulous light relief in desperate times".

A spokesperson for the  Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board said workers had been cheered by the response it had received.

"The message people should take away from this video is about respecting our NHS, supporting the teams and social distancing," the spokesman said.

"It's really important people follow the advice and look after themselves and the NHS."

Staff at Royal Glamorgan Hospital posted a similar video last month, which showed A&E workers cleaning and dancing along to Olly Murs’ song, Dance With Me Tonight.

“Please share a little positivity, from all at the Royal Glamorgan A&E department.”
