Wellwishers donate over £3k to fundraiser started by tragic doctor Cat Gaskell

A tragic Lanarkshire doctor whose body was found after going missing was training for a charity marathon in the months leading up to her death.

Doctor Cat Gaskell had gone missing on August 14 before her body was found in Newton.

But before her death, Cat had been planning to run the London marathon in October for Macmillan cancer charity.

And since the passing of 'lovely' 29-year-old, wellwishers have raised almost £3k as part of a charity fundraiser set up by Cat herself.

Scots have been donating to the page in recent weeks in order for Cat to reach the target, despite the fact she will no longer be able to take part in the race.

So far, the fundraiser has hit £2,800 of her £3,000 target and generous sponsors have forked out to her Virgin Money Giving page.

One kind pledger anonymously even donated £660.

Cat's fundraiser wrote: "So after saying I'd never run a marathon again in 2013, I have somehow ended up signing up to run the London marathon in October this year!

"I'm running for Macmillan, an incredible charity who support those going through cancer treatment and their loved ones.

"I'm going to kick off my fundraising by running a half marathon followed by a four hour 'spinathon' on Sunday, April 18.

"Any donations would be hugely appreciated.

"We're here to help everyone with cancer live life as fully as they can, providing physical, financial and emotional support.

"So whatever cancer throws your way, we're right there with you.

"For information, support or just someone to talk to, call 0808 808 00 00 or visit macmillan.org.uk.

"We are a charity registered in England and Wales (261017), Scotland (SCO39907) and the Isle of Man (604)."

Cat had never been missing before, which sparked a frantic police search to find her with worried friends and family sharing a number of appeals on social media.

Police confirmed Cat's death at around 10.45am on August 16th.

Loved ones paid tributes to the 'nicest' young GP after being 'shocked' by her death.

Sharing a picture of Cat, one friend wrote: "My wifey for lifey. will love and miss you always Cat Gaskell."

Another said: "I am absolutely shocked and devastated to learn of the news. Cat Gaskell I will always remember you as one of the nicest people I have ever met at Secondary School.

"My thoughts are with you, your family and Robbie. Rest in Peace."

One commented: "Horrible news about Cat who I knew well from school. Thoughts with Robbie, family and all of her friends."

"Omg can’t believe you are gone Cat Gaskell, you were such a lovely girl who done so much good in the world definitely taken to soon. Heaven has gained another angel.
