Wellerman hitmaker Nathan Evans goes platinum in Germany - following in the footsteps of fellow Scot Amy Macdonald

Wellerman hitmaker Nathan Evans is celebrating after his single went platinum in Germany.

Former postman Nathan, who was signed up by Polydor following the success of his sea shanty on Tik Tok was already excited he'd gone to number one in Germany in the last week of February.

He told fans at the time: "See in case you didn't already know, we are one number one in Germany."

"That's outrageous, absolutely outrageous, I didn't think it could get any bigger. Germany, number one in Germany, that is insane."

Nathan topped the charts in the UK for two weeks with his single.

Now he is buzzing after finding out he's achieve platinum status in Germany by selling over two million singles.

He said: "Just found out I've went platinum with Wellerman in Germany. Holy sh** . I'm genuinely speechless."

The platinum certification was introduced in 1976 for the sale of one million units for albums and two million for singles, with the gold certification redefined to mean sales of 500,000 units for albums and one million for singles.

It means Nathan is following in the footsteps of fellow Scots Amy Macdonald and Lewis Capaldi in cracking the German music market.

Amy Macdonald has become such a big star in Germany that she sells out arenas there and is even used to help children learn English in their schoolbooks,
