Well-wishes for Coleraine coach as he takes managerial role at former club

Coleraine players and staff have passed on their best wishes to coach Paul Owens as he leaves the club to rejoin Limavady United as manager.

Owens, who also played with the Bannsiders, joined Oran Kearney's backroom team at The Showgrounds at the beginning of the 2018/19 campaign and played a crucial part as the Bannsiders secured European football and the BetMcLean Cup.

It followed a successful spell as manager of the Roesiders where he lifted the Intermediate Cup in 2017.

Kearney led the tributes to Owens as he takes over from Andrew Law as manager of his hometown club.

“Paul played under me and then developed into a top class coach and his input has grown massively," said the Bannsiders boss.

“He has been someone who has been vital on a matchday and on training nights.

“Sometimes you have to acknowledge that there’s more to life than football in terms of family commitments and everything else."

Current Coleraine captain, Stephen O'Donnell, echoed his manager's sentiments tweeting: "Good luck Owensy. Be a big miss for us. Go and smash it."

Bannsiders midfielder Jamie Glackin also tweeted his best wishes for the 40-year-old: "Best of luck...top drawer coach and will be missed...go smash it now as a gaffer."

Current Carrick Rangers players, Jim Ervin and Curtis Allen, also passed on their congratulations to Owens.
