Well-known WA surfer charged after man dies after alleged fight

Well-known Margaret River surfer Tony Hardy has been arrested after a fight that has left another man dead.

A well-known surfer and business owner in WA's south-west has been arrested and charged after an alleged fight with a man who died from his injuries in hospital this morning.

Police allege Anthony Charles Hardy, 67, was involved in a physical altercation with a 75-year-old victim at a home in Margaret River yesterday afternoon.

Police say the victim died this morning after being flown to Perth Royal Hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Mr Hardy was initially charged with aggravated assault and grievous bodily harm and appeared briefly in Bunbury Magistrate's Court today.

He will now face upgraded charges on February 9.

When Magistrate Belinda Coleman advised him to seek legal advice, Mr Hardy said he would represent himself.

Police have yet to determine what Mr Hardy will be charged with before his next court appearance.
