Well-known mum-of-three dies suddenly at Blackrock home as tributes pour in

Tributes have been pouring in for writer Kristen 'Doodle' Kennelly who died suddenly at her south Dublin home on Sunday.

A mum-of-three in her early 50s, Kristen was a well-known columnist with The Sunday Independent.

She was a daughter to award-winning Kerry poet Emeritus Brendan Kennelly and American poet Margaret 'Peggy' O’Brien.

'Doodle' was born in Sandymount but also spent some time in the USA before returning to Blackrock where she died over the weekend.

One close friend said: "We are greatly saddened to tell you that Kristen Kennelly, known to many as Doodle, passed away suddenly at her home in Blackrock. We are heartbroken."

Another added: "This is such terribly sad news. I am so sorry to her family. I always enjoyed her company."

A third said: "I am very sorry to hear this. Sending strength to all the family at this very sad time. May she rest in peace."

Her death notice reads: "KENNELLY, Kristen (Doodle) – 18th April, 2021 (Blackrock, Co. Dublin) suddenly in her home.

"Beloved daughter of Brendan Kennelly and Margaret O'Brien. Remembered by her three daughters, uncles, aunts, cousins, relatives, neighbours and her wide circle of friends."
