Well-known Bolton car boot sale forced to relocate after 30 years

A well-known Bolton car boot sale has been forced to relocate after 30 years at its current site.

The Lever Street car boot has temporarily ceased trading due to "long-standing" maintenance issues with its building.

It is expected to reopen at a new site in the next few weeks.

A letter revealing the announcement was sent to stallholders on Sunday, February 23.

It cited roof leaks, pot holes in the yard and deteriorating electrical installations as major reasons for the relocation.

Stallholders were told they have 21 days to remove their belongings.

The letter reads: “It is with regret that we have to inform you that the Lever Street Car Boot will cease to operate after today, 23rd February 2020 in its existing premises.

“A new site is being sought and the car boot will reopen as soon as possible but there will be a period of weeks until it will be ready to occupy.”

Graham Wilson, who stood down as manager of the car boot in September but remained there on a voluntary basis, said: “I feel for the stallholders, there are so many people we have made friends with.

“It’s that sort of thing where you become friends with some genuine, honest people and it was a really nice community spirit.

“People have always been critical because it’s in poor condition.

“But that’s not the people, it’s the building.”

Cringle Corporation, which owns the site, declined to comment.
