'Well dressed' man pretending to be a Garda tries to enter house as investigation launched

Gardai in Laois have launched an investigation after a man tried to gain entry to a house by impersonating a Garda.

Portlaoise Gardaí are investigating the incident which occurred in the Kennels Cross area of Portarlington at approximately 5.30pm on January 26.

Gardai have said that the man was 5ft 8 and well dressed. He called to a house in the area and attempted to gain admittance by pretending to be a member of An Garda Síochána.

It has not been reported that the male was dressed in a Garda uniform.

Gardai are asking anyone who may have seen anything suspicious at that time to contact them.

In a statement, the Gardai said: "We are appealing for information if you drove through the location, were out walking, have CCTV or dashcam footage or saw anything suspicious in the area to contact Kildare Garda Station on 045 527730."
