Well done Trinidad & Tobago

The smile on Dwight Yorke's face after Trinidad & Tobago had drawn with Sweden said everything. Great result and great performance from the smallest nation at the World Cup, especially considering they were down to 10 men for effectively the whole second half. Sweden should have won and Marcus Allback's failure to take two or three good chances had a familiar ring to it from Premiership days, but it was impossible to begrudge T&T their point. Shaka Hislop was excellent, saving everything Sweden could throw at him, and it's impossible to think he will not keep his place against England now even though he only played this game because Kelvin Jack aggravated an injury during the warm-up.

Still, England will expect to win and surely they will manage that. They will make chances and then the need is to be more clinical than Sweden were. But well played Leo Beenhakker, not just for leading T&T to their first World Cup point but for a brave and inspired substitution after Avery John was sent off. Instead of bringing on another defensive player, he threw on a second striker and forced Sweden to hold men back in case of counter-attacks. Cornell Glen, who came on, even hit the bar.

It was similar to what Jose Mourinho did at half-time against Barcelona this season after Asier Del Horno was shown a red card. He pushed Arjen Robben in a central striking position alongside Didier Drogba, Chelsea went ahead and Robben caused Barca problems with his pace through the middle. But Frank Rijkaard's team equalised, Mourinho switched system again and then Chelsea conceded a second time. Sweden, of course, couldn't manage one goal in Dortmund. I'm sure they would have hoped for greater impact from Freddie Ljungberg, though he is playing through a foot injury. And why didn't Lars Lagerback bring on Kim Kallstrom earlier? He brought greater penetration to their attacks and was more effective than Anders Svensson.
