Well done to the NUJ for lifting its Israeli boycott

I am so relieved that the NUJ has abandoned its foolish Israeli boycott. Better still, the fact that it was accomplished at the behest of the general secretary, Jeremy Dear, and the president, Michelle Stanistreet, illustrates that the union is being led responsibly.

That will go some way to improving the NUJ's image, as will its call for members (such as me, I do declare) to unite behind "key workplace priorities". I am sorry that people felt they needed to resign over the matter and hope that they may reconsider. Right now, the union has important business to consider as we move further down the revolutionary road of online journalism.

I say all this, by the way, as someone who is utterly opposed to almost all of Israel's policies and actions in the past 40 years. But they are political views, and I believe those should be kept separate from trades union activities.
