RIGHT on cue - day one of winter and snow chasers might be in for a treat at Barrington Tops.

A strong cold front is expected to bring snow down to about 800m on June 1 in the Southern Ranges as well as the Central Tablelands with Barrington Tops likely to receive a dusting of snow tonight (Monday).

The Bureau of Meteorology has predicted a chilly day at the Tops with a maximum of 11 degrees forecast after 6 degrees overnight.

There will be a chance of a thunderstorm before north to northwesterly winds of 20 to 30km/h swing west to northwesterly 15 to 20km/h this evening.

And then the temperature will plummet.

The minimum for Tuesday (June 2) is expected to reached -1 degrees. There will be a chance of a shower about higher ground in the south in the morning, with possible morning snow flurries above 1100 metres. Winds will be westerly up to 25 to 35km/h.

For the remainder of the week, temperatures are not likely to reach double digits, the Bureau predicts.

Most National Parks campgrounds, cabins and cottages will reopen in NSW from June 1, in line with the easing of holiday travel restrictions announced by the NSW Government.

Travellers are now required to make a booking for all campgrounds and campsites in national parks. This includes locations that were previously available for use without a booking.

The booking rules or maximum capacity may have changed for your preferred destination, so please check the webpage for your chosen campground before planning your visit.
