"Welcome to Twitter" Social media site down as thousands of users report issues

Twitter has gone down as thousands of users have complained of issues with the social media app and website. On DownDetector, reports started flooding in around 9.50am on Wednesday (March 1).

Upon opening up Twitter, many say they cannot see their timeline, with a message saying "Welcome to Twitter! This is the best place to see what’s happening in your world. Find some people and topics to follow now" popping up instead.

So far, Twitter has not acknowledged the problem. Thousands of people have been taking to the social media site to complain.

On DownDetector, 63 per cent of reported problems involve the app, while 33 per cent are reported to be taking place on the desktop version of the social media. Around four per cent are reporting problems with the site's server.

A post by the website reads: "User reports indicate Twitter is having problems since 5:17 AM EST. http://downdetector.com/status/twitter/ RT if you're also having problems."

Many people have gone on to share the issues they've been experiencing. @Assasyngal posted: "What do you mean "welcome to twitter" I've on this hellsite since 2010."

@Chinacarstravel joked: "Welcome to Twitter! Twitter seems to think I'm new today. Maybe I'm a born again Tweeter. #TwitterDown #TwitterBug #technology." @SaHreports added: "Can't view timeline or any tweets because after 9 years twitter has decided to welcome me & won't let me see anything else."

@ElfingKaixxi asked: "Anyone else seeing something weird going on? like now I'm having this welcome to twitter thing and no matter what I do I cannot see the home page." @Mahnaboo put: "DID MY TWITTER RESTART OMG WHERE ARE YOU GUYS."
