‘Welcome to the world, Zola’ Scots Labour MP Ian Murray becomes first time dad

Labour MP Ian Murray is “over the moon” after becoming a dad for the very first time.

The Scottish politician shared the exciting news that he and long-term partner Mariam had welcomed the new arrival on Thursday night.

The 44-year-old shared an adorable picture of their newborn daughter, who has been named Zola Marcele El-Azm Murray.

The Shadow Secretary of State for Scotland also issued his heartfelt thanks to NHS staff who helped deliver the 6lb 12.5oz baby.

The MP, who represents Edinburgh South and is the only Labour MP in Scotland, wrote: “Some personal news.

“Delighted to have become a daddy for the first time. Zola Marcelle El-Azm Murray was born last night weighing in at 6lb 12.5oz.

“Mariam and I are over the moon. And thanks to our amazing NHS staff. Welcome to the world, Zola.”

Dozens of well wishers sent their congratulations to the couple including Scottish Labour leader Richard Leonard.

He wrote: “Congratulations Ian. Welcom, Zola, to the Labour family.”
