They say you can’t buy taste. We’re not so sure. Shelf Improvement, our delightful subscription for book lovers, is all about sharing the experience and expertise of our trusted editors, critics and writers in order to expand your reading horizons.
Each month, they’ll name their top pick and we’ll pop it in the post. The exact book remains a mystery until it lands on the doorstep, so it is the perfect way to encounter totally fresh voices and vistas.

Pick a package
Although the book choices are up to our Guardian experts, the exact tailoring of the package is down to you. Choose between fiction, non-fiction or a mixture of the two, whether you would like hardback or paperback and whether you would like the subscription to run for 6 months or a full year. Simple.

What do we send and when?
A book each month (but this is the bit you knew). Subscriptions start the calendar month after the order is placed by default. If you are ordering a gift ahead of a special date and would like the start to be postponed, just let the team know when you speak to them. We also send out a gift card for you to pass on to the lucky recipient at the appropriate time.
How much does it cost?
We split our prices by format and genre. Fiction, non-fiction or a mixture? All are available at the same great prices.
Paperback - £60 (6 months) | £120 (12 months)
Hardback - £115 (6 months) | £230 (12 months)
