Chelsea are on the verge of making their fifth signing of the transfer window.
Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Kai Havertz has emerged as one of the Blues’ top targets over the past few weeks, with the club locked in talks with the Bundesliga club.
Chelsea have already added to their squad this summer with the arrivals of Hakim Ziyech, Timo Werner, Ben Chilwell, Malang Sarr and Thiago Silva.
And it seems that they are now closer than ever to adding Havertz to that list, with Leverkusen manager Peter Bosz revealing that he doesn’t ex[ect the player to train with the club again.
Reports via the Guardian now claim that a complete deal with Leverkusen has been reached with Leverkusen, with Chelsea paying the German club an initial fee of £72 million, with them paying further installments of £8.9 million should certain conditions are met.
Havertz is currently on international duty with Germany, having met up with the squad on Monday ahead of the National League matches vs Spain and Switzerland this week.
After a long-drawn-out transfer saga, it seems that Chelsea are now closer than ever to getting one of their top targets, and fans on social media showed their excitement for the news.
Havertz has played a total of 118 Bundesliga games, scoring 36 times and providing 25 assists.
The 21-year-old played a total of 45 games in all competitions last season, finding the net of 18 occasions and providing a further nine assists.
After the capture of Havertz, Frank Lampard is likely to turn his attention to pushing forward a move for a new goalkeeper as he looks for a replacement for Kepa Arrizabalaga.
