'Welcome to Arsenal' - Gunners fans hijack social media post to send message to Thomas Partey

Arsenal supporters do not miss a trick when it comes to social media.

The Gunners have been linked with a move for Thomas Partey this summer, with the Atletico Madrid midfielder having a reported £44.5million release clause.

Mikel Arteta is keen to strengthen his squad this summer, although finances are going to be tight as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.

And, on the face of it, a £44.5million move for Partey would seem unlikely.

The impact of Arsenal's lost match-day income

However, Arsenal could offload a number of players in order to fund the Partey deal, something that is not out of the question.

The Gunners had been thought to be leading the race for the Ghanaian midfielder, until Barcelona were linked with triggering his release clause on Saturday.

And Saturday was a special day for the midfield man as he celebrated his 27th birthday.

The official English account of Atletico Madrid on Twitter did the decent thing and wished him happy birthday, but it was hijacked by Arsenal supporters all calling for him to sign for the north Londoners.

Here are a selection of the posts:

@RahulArsenal1 Happy birthday Thomas welcome to Arsenal.
