'Welcome home'- Chelsea fans overjoyed after completing £98m Romelu Lukaku transfer

Romelu Lukaku has officially been announced as a Chelsea player after months of speculation linking him with a return to Stamford Bridge.

The Blues have been desperate to bring in a world-class frontman all summer, with Lukaku and Borussia Dortmund wonderkid Erling Haaland topping the list of potential targets as manager Thomas Tuchel looks to bridge the gap between his side and reigning Premier League champions Manchester City this season.

However, Dortmund's exorbitant asking price for the Norway international meant that the west London club decided to focus their attention solely on Lukaku before agreeing on a £98million fee with Inter Milan for his services.

The Belgian, who has now penned a five-year contract with the club, was a Chelsea player between 2011 and 2014, featuring just 15 times in the famous blue shirt before enjoying productive loan spells with West Brom and Everton before sealing a permanent switch to Goodison Park seven years ago.

The 28-year-old will be hoping to make a more meaningful impact in his second stint with the club after the transfer made him the second most expensive player in Premier League history, with Manchester City's £100million move for Jack Grealish topping the charts.

Chelsea announced the deal was completed on the club's Twitter account as Blues fans took to social media to voice their excitement at the blockbuster deal. Here is how a select few reacted on Twitter to the news.

@debbie_chelsea: "40 goals for you."

@AlexGoldberg_: "HE’S HOME! LET’S GOOOOOOOO."

@sarajbz: "Welcome to the home of the Champions of Europe."

@amitrmfc: "Officially the best striker in the Premier League."

@CFCPys: "WELCOME HOME."

Lukaku was a revelation during his time with the Nerazzurri, notching 64 goals in 95 games to help guide the Italian giants to the Serie A title last term, their first league title since Jose Mourinho's Inter side in 2011.
