'Welcome back king!' - Liverpool fans react to Virgil van Dijk injury update

Liverpool fans have been reacting to Virgil van Dijk's latest injury update.

Van Dijk posted pictures on social media of himself back in training less than five weeks against undergoing knee surgery.

The encouraging photographs, showing him working with coaches in the gym at the club's new training complex, were accompanied by the caption: "Working harder than ever."

The Liverpool defender suffered damage to his anterior cruciate ligament during the 2-2 draw with Everton at Goodison Park on October 17.

No time frame has been set for a potential return to action, though Liverpool have yet to rule the talismanic Dutchman out for the season.

The Echo's Liverpool correspondent Paul Gorst said: "Van Dijk's mentality and attitude over the course of his near three-year Anfield career were initially cited as reasons to be optimistic.

"However, while the images of the Dutchman will be viewed as good news to the club's fanbase, Reds officials are likely to be wary of suggestions the defender will return ahead of schedule."

Van Dijk is likely to be some way from getting back outside on the training pitch and doing ball work - but Reds supporters are nonetheless delighted by Friday's update.

"Brilliant to see," said one fan on Twitter, while another posted: "Keep going Virg. We are all behind you."

A third supporter simply tweeted: "Welcome back king!"

Van Dijk has missed 10 matches in all competitions to date. Liverpool are next in action on Sunday, when they take on Wolverhampton Wanderers at Anfield in the Premier League.
