'Welcome!' - Arsenal fans excited after Dayot Upamecano's barber drops transfer hint on Instagram

Arsenal supporters have taken to social media after Dayot Upamecano's barber posted an image on Instagram.

The RB Leipzig centre-back has been linked with a big-money move this summer after establishing himself as one of the most highly-rated young defenders in Europe in recent seasons.

Upamecano starred for Julian Nagelsmann's side in their Champions League last-16 thumping of Tottenham last month, but looks set to leave the Bundesliga side at the end of the campaign.

The France Under-21 international's contract expires at the end of next season, with BILD reporting that the defender has refused to sign a new deal at the Red Bull Arena.

And as previously reported by football.london, the France Under-21 international has been on Arsenal's radar for quite some time.

The Gunners are interested in bringing him to the Emirates Stadium in the summer, and despite the defender's asking price standing at £70million last year, this is likely to drop given his contract situation.

But Arsenal are likely to face competition for the 21-year-old, with Bayern Munich, Manchester City and recently, Real Madrid, also linked with a summer move.

However, some eagle-eyed Arsenal fans believe a picture on social media is a major hint that they could be in front of the queue for Upamecano's services.

Sheldon Edwards, who self proclaims himself as a professional barber 'to elite athletes and media personalities' on his Instagram account, counts Upamecano as one of his high profile clients, along with Manchester City's Raheem Sterling and Olympic legend Usain Bolt.

On Monday evening, Edwards uploaded a picture of the Leipzig defender - taken several months ago - onto his Instagram story.

In the next picture, he posted an image with three emojis, including a hand with a pen and a book, in an apparent hint of an imminent contract signing of some form.

This sparked some excited responses from Arsenal supporters.

Leipzig sporting director Markus Krosche recently admitted that he hoped Upamecano would choose to commit his future to the club and sign a new deal, amid the uncertainty of the coronavirus pandemic.

“This is a far-reaching decision for a player," he told Kicker.

"He should take his time with that. He has to be clear about exactly what he is going to do, how he sees his future.

“Maybe that has changed a bit as a result of the new situation [coronavirus].”
