Weirdest Scottish baby names of last year include Trump, Tobin and Phenomenal

With around 50,000 babies born in Scotland last year, thousands of parents were faced with a dilemma of what to name their precious little bundle.

While we know Jack and Olivia were the most popular baby names of the last year, some parents opted for something totally unique - with one Scots baby being given the name Trump.

Data gathered from National Records Scotland shows the baby boy was the only one in the country to be given the very presidential moniker.

Other equally unique names for Scottish baby boys were 'Phenomenal', 'Tobin', 'Judge' and 'Sterling'.

Some Scots parents clearly took influence from TV, film and celebrities with names like 'DiCaprio', 'Thor', 'Rocky', 'Negan', Cobain and Hendrix all given to baby boys.

While others took their choices from the animal kingdom with a baby 'Wolf', 'Tiger', 'Otter' and 'Swift' all being registered in the last year.

And for baby girls the choices were no less unique with names such as 'Excel', 'Audi', 'Vogue', 'Wish', 'Treasure' and 'Thistle' amongst those registered.

Some parents seemed to be influenced by popular reality TV family The Kardashians, choosing the same baby names as sisters Khloe and Kylie, with 'True'  and 'Stormi' both making an appearance.

Technology may have influenced other parents with both 'Alexa' and 'Siri' listed while others could have taken inspiration from Disney movies with a 'Moanah' and a baby boy 'Buzz'.

Some babies were given geographical names with 'Africa', 'Dallas', 'Monaco' 'Rome' and 'Oban' all on the list of baby names registered.

TV show Game of Thrones was also a big hit with parents with babies being named 'Theon', 'Arya' and 'Khaleesi'.

Two babies were simply given single initials as their first name, with a baby 'A' and a baby 'R' registered last year.
