When Weird Al Yankovic’s 2014 album Mandatory Fun entered the US charts at no 1 – the first comedy album to reach the spot in 50 years – he celebrated by eating a burrito.

This made sense for the comedian, whose 1984 breakthrough song and video was titled Eat It (a take on Michael Jackson’s Beat It). Following a 100 city tour in the United States, he’ll bring his Mandatory world tour to Australia.

The Californian comedian grew up enjoying comedy like Monty Python and Mad magazine. He studied architecture until he realised he could forge a career for himself making parody music videos. Over his almost four-decade long career, he’s satirised everyone from Madonna (Like a Surgeon) to Lorde (Foils), won four Grammy awards, and starred in films and TV shows.
