Weight limit on Nottingham's e-scooters increased after launch of new fleet

An unique feature on the brand-new Nottingham e-scooters has extended the weight limit for users, bosses announced.

It comes as WIND, the company which operates the e-scooter scheme in the city, revealed the old yellow model operating in Nottingham has been replaced with the "industry-leading" LINK e-scooter from Superpedestrian.

The new vehicles feature a range of major changes in a bid to boost safety for users and general public.

The footboard of the new riding devices is 20 percent wider and 9 percent longer than industry convention to make for a more stable ride.

Another new feature is that the weight limit has been increased by up to 30 per cent more than the previous model.

Thanks to the improvements made to the suspension and chassis - the brand new e-scooter can carry up to 130kg (20 stone).

The weight limit on the previous model was 100kg, or 15.7 stone.

The chassis has been specifically designed to protect the battery from weather and vandals, and solid tyres stand up to frequent use without damage.

The suspension has been tested to withstand at least one million bumps, according to the company.

Jean Andrews, Policy Director (UK and Ireland) at Superpedestrian, commented: "The LINK e-scooter has been designed by Superpedestrian with a 130kg weight rating, thanks to a reinforced chassis, heavy-duty suspension and years of intensive testing and development.

"The previous Wind model in Nottingham could carry around 100kg, with most other models in the UK suited to even less.

"This 30 percent increase means more riders than ever will be able to try out the joy of shared e-scooter for themselves in Nottingham." Jean Andrews, Policy Director (UK and Ireland), Superpedestrian."

The neon yellow and grey LINK e-scooters have already be rolled out this week - with the switch of the fleet being completed on Friday, December 17, according to WIND.
