In the past week, I happened upon the following websites and blogs to bring you a weekly, highly personal, view of what's best on the web. Some sites are old, some are new, and some will reappear again and again because they keep doing great things in different ways. Let me know what you think of my selection, and do suggest others to be considered for inclusion next week.
Muslim Rave Party Shiite Muslims go utterly nuts, ingeniously backed by one of the most testosterone driven pieces of Italo-handbag ever.
The World's Worst Police Dog This link was kindly supplied by Tsavo, a reader with a very keen eye for the absurd. It features a German Shepherd so affably inept at catching crooks he's practically a one dog Keystone Cops.
Loose Change Second Edition This slick piece of Goebbels-like propaganda has now been watched by close to 100 million people. Now into its second edition (meaning it features extra doses of garbage), it is surely one of the most discussed movies of all time.
Debunking 9/11 Myths The excellent science journal Popular Mechanics demolishes every absurd claim made in Loose Change, doing what no other journalists could apparently be arsed to do. Those who don't have the time to read the full article might just want to check out the shortish radio program they made to accompany it. For text go here.
9/11 Debate: Loose change vs Popular Mechanics A discussion between all the main protagonists hosted by the very wonderful Amy Goodman.
CNET Brilliant technology site. Want to know how to change the batteries in your iPod or whether Microsoft's Vista is worth buying? Then make CNET your first port of call. Especially useful because it features video walk-throughs.
Boing Boing A directory of weird stuff. My own random clicking brought up an animated Obesity Map of America, a blind woman who "sees with sound" and a very funny video about tech support in the 11th century.
Say No to Crack A savage and occasionally hilarious blog with a scattergun approach (attacks on the US tax system, video of a pelican eating a pigeon, weird sculptures of Chairman Mao as Mickey Mouse) that can be hit and miss. But when it hits, it hits hard.
Pink is the New Blog A staggeringly bitchy blog that alternates between saucy autobiographical detail and malicious attacks on various female pop stars.
Post Secret In which people are invited to post in their secrets. A little like watching the world's most scatological and hate-filled edition of Big Brother: a very guilty pleasure.
