Weekly meetings held to scrutinise under-fire Dumbarton care home

Weekly meetings are being held to scrutinise an under-fire care home which has been ordered to make a series of improvements.

Castle View Care Home is currently closed to new admissions after inspectors from West Dunbartonshire’s Health and Social Care Partnership (HSCP) published a list of 13 areas of concern at the facility.

These include ensuring appropriate infection control protocols and practices are in place and that the home has a systematic approach to identifying, managing and reporting risk for residents.

Inspectors have also sought improvements to make sure residents have access to adequate information about power of attorney, that effective record keeping practices are in place and that residents receive diet and fluids appropriate to their assessed need.

Owner’s HC-One took the decision to close the home to new residents following the inspection which was overseen by the Care Inspectorate.

The Lennox Herald exclusively revealed in February a probe was launched after a complaint about the quality of care.

A report on the investigation and the improvement plan will be discussed at an HSCP audit committee tomorrow (Wednesday).

It states: “A team of council officers, district nursing and quality assurance staff continue to work with HC-One/ Castle View staff to support the required improvement.

“An oversight group, comprising HSCP and Care Inspectorate staff, meet on a weekly basis to monitor the progress of improvement.”

A spokeswoman for the home previously told us they are “deeply disappointed” with the investigation’s findings although they did acknowledge that standards at the facility had fallen short.
