Independence was was very much on the agenda this week – yesterday nearly two million people took part in the Catalan demonstration in Barcelona for an independence vote in November. There was a huge response and we’ve included some of our favourites in a gallery.
And from independence in Catalonia to Scotland. With the Scottish independence referendum looming large, News wanted to hear about the mood wherever you are based in Scotland. Urmas Lauri shared this image from the Yes campaign in Oban.

Based on your suggestions to Send us your assignment ideas we’ve started a new series based on readers’ ideas. The first in our series is on photos of your childhood friendship groups. macman37 has shared this gem of a photo from his childhood days in Old Belfast.
Old Belfast.
This was taken when I was 4 years old in 1952. My big brother Bill is middle of middle row. I am in the front with black curly hair.
I don't know who took the photo.
We are in front of a bomb site of which there were a few in Carrick Hill. We played in the street all hours; virtually no traffic, more like horses and carts.
If there’s an assignment that we’re not running that you think we should please do let us know by sharing your ideas with us.
With the new British football season now well under way, we’re still asking to see your photos of your local team. Paul4Jags took this photo of one spectator who doesn’t seem overly impressed with Renfrew F.C’s early season efforts.
Renfrew Football Club, Scotland
I am usually found on a Saturday supporting Partick Thistle, but if I can't make an away game I will often content myself with taking in a Juniors match. These are the Scottish lower league teams and have a reputation for some feisty confrontations. However this game last year between Renfrew FC and Greenock was very civilised.
The New East network have been asking for photos depicting daily life in Russia and flyingwithanna has shared this blissful picture from Orkhon Island, located in Lake Baikal, Siberia.

The Tower of London poppies installation still captures your attention, and we have had several lovely photos from the grounds around the tower. Simon Bleasdale shared this close up image of the poppies.
Poppies at the Tower
It was such a pleasure and honour to 'plant' 75 of the Poppies in Paul Cummins's installation...such a worthy and thought provoking project, but such a shame they won't be there for long.
Do Something have asked to see photos of where you write. ID195271 shared their writing sanctuary, impressively managing to write creatively without getting distracted by the surrounding view.
Room with a view
For creative writing, I have to escape my messy study and work in our conservatory surrounded by the serenity of the rural views.
As part of the ‘playable city’ movement people have been grabbing sticks of chalk and creating playful drawings on city streets. Guardian Cities have encouraged readers to share their most playful ‘chalkify’ efforts with us. Isabelle Selleslag shared this photo from Brussels that nearly landed her in hot water with an unappreciative house owner.
Reaching with a love letter
Chalkifying the city of Brussels during a summer camp (art-in-the-city themed). Unfortunately, the owners of one of the houses we chalked on called the police... We ran away and acted as if we were just playing a game.
Comment is free have received many creative and thought provoking spoken word submissions in these last couple of weeks. MiKo Berry has shared this impressive poem about how to handle the bad days.
