Weekend weather forecast: Rain to clear up in the North East but it will feel very cold

It seemed like the rain was never going to stop this week but thankfully, it looks set to brighten up.

There was flood warnings and hazardous driving conditions earlier in the week after torrential downpours and other parts of the country are still flooded.

After heavy rain on Friday morning, it looks like things will clear up and make way for a more pleasant weekend.

However, temperatures continue to drop and it will feel rather chilly.

Graham Madge from the Met Office told us what to expect:

Friday

"The rain that we've had overnight has now moved into the North Sea. It's now brightening up but we may still have cloud and fog patches for the rest of the day.

"Overnight there will be a cold front making its way over from Northern Ireland but it's very slow moving and will likely miss the pennines."

Saturday

"It may well be cloudy but it will be mainly dry. We also may well see periods of being overcast and slight showers but nothing much at all.

"Temperatures will be around 7°C - possible 8°C if the sun is out."

Sunday

"It starts out quite bright and should be mainly dry. There's colder air in the north so temperatures are looking like 8°C and could possibly go into double figures but it's going to feel cold.

"There's still potential for frost as we're still in that cold regime with cold air coming in. There could also be patchy fog developing.

"Looking into next week, it's turning more unsettled with periods of rain."
