Weekend weather forecast: Get ready for two days of wind and rain - and a chance of flooding in some areas

It’ll be a wet and windy weekend in Greater Manchester and heavy rain could bring flooding to some parts of the region.

A number of big events are set to take place in Manchester city centre, including the Conservative Party Conference and a number of protest events.

Forecasters say those heading into the city should prepare themselves for rain.

A Met Office spokesperson said: “On Saturday there will be some sunshine with showers throughout the day.

“Some showers will be heavy and there will be a strong breeze at times.

“It will definitely feel very autumnal.

Temperatures will be mild, but it will rain. (Steve Allen)

“On Sunday it’s a different story with heavy rain throughout the morning clearing to frequent showers through the afternoon.

“It might brighten up but we will see some persistent rain and it will be quite windy as well.”

Temperatures will reach a maximum of around 17C over the weekend.

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning of heavy rain for Saturday night.

The deluge is expected to last until 5pm on Sunday and forecasters are warning that it could cause flooding in some areas.

Traveling conditions could be difficult, they say.

The yellow warning map covers the whole of the region, as well as Merseyside, Lancashire and Cheshire.
