Weekend weather forecast for Nottinghamshire as big freeze to hit county

Freezing temperatures have been forecast for the coming days in Nottinghamshire, with lows of -3C expected to hit this weekend.

Factoring in wind chill, the Met Office expects it to actually feel as cold as -9C by 9am on Saturday.

Severn Trent Water has issued a warning over the impending cold snap to its customers, advising to insulate taps and pipes in a bid to avoid bursts which could leave homes without heating or hot water supply during cold weather.

A Met Office forecaster said: "Remaining very cold with early widespread frost and strengthening southeasterly winds, Friday should be dry and largely sunny but cloudier along the coast, the cloud spreading inland during the afternoon. Maximum temperature 3C.

"Remaining windy throughout this period, it should be dry but increasingly cloudy on Saturday. There is a risk of snow or freezing rain spreading eastwards on Sunday."
