CHICAGO _ Patrons of a late-night restaurant in Chicago's Greektown witnessed some of the first bursts of the weekend violence as eight men and women punched each other, wrestled on the floor and threw chairs across the room.
One person knocked to the ground began firing shots, wounding two people as well as striking himself in the leg early Saturday morning at the Taco Burrito King in the 800 block of West Jackson Boulevard, according to police.
They were among 31 people shot in Chicago from Friday afternoon to Monday morning, police said. Two of the wounded died.
_ A 25-year-old man was killed around 5:55 p.m. in the 7900 block of South Manistee Avenue in the South Chicago neighborhood. He was in front of a home when someone shot at him from the gangway, police said.
_ On Sunday, a man was shot in the head and back in the 1000 block of North Lavergne Avenue in South Austin neighborhood on the West Side, police said. He died on the scene.
_ The weekend's last shooting happened around 10 p.m. Sunday in the South Austin neighborhood during what police said was an attempted robbery. The 49-year-old man was shot in the hand, and suffered a graze wound to the head, police said, when he told the shooter who announced a robbery that he had no money.
Those shot over the weekend ranged from 18 to 55. Two women were shot and 29 men.
