Aug. 10--Two men were killed and 43 people were wounded in shootings citywide since Friday night.
The shootings this weekend bring the year's total to at least 1,714, according to an analysis of a Chicago Tribune database on city shootings. That's an increase of 200 over last year and 361 over 2013, according to Tribune data. The city has also seen more murders, according to a Tribune database on homicides: At least 281 were slaying victims through Monday morning this year, which is almost 40 more than last year and 30 more than 2013.
Torri Williams, 17, was killed in Englewood late Friday night in a shooting that also wounded a 20-year-old man, police said. He was standing at the corner of 64th and South Justine streets when someone exited a white Cadillac and shot him in the chest.
A 32-year-old man was killed Sunday night after an attempted robbery in Lawndale, police said. He was driving a car near the 1500 block of South Kildare Avenue when someone on a bicycle pulled a weapon and announced a robbery. The man drove south on Kildare and the person on the bicycle opened fire, hitting him in his side. The car crashed through a gate about three blocks south and came to a stop, and the man was found dead at the scene. A family member at the scene identified him as Marquise Mitchell.
The weekend's youngest victim was a 12-year-old boy shot in the leg late Saturday in West Englewood, police said. He was shot along with a 15-year-old boy in the 6700 block of South Winchester Avenue. The 15-year-old was shot in the buttocks.
From Friday night to Saturday morning, one person was killed and 22 were wounded; from Saturday night to Sunday morning, 13 people were injured; and from Sunday night to Monday morning, one was killed and eight were wounded.
