Weekend of sunshine forecast as heatwave is set to arrive in Ayrshire

Dust off your swimming costumes and fire up the barbecue because another heatwave is on the way.

Just a few weeks ago punters flooded to the beach as temperatures reached a toasty 28°.

But this weekend a much more bearable 23° has been predicted.

Temperatures will start to climb on Thursday reaching around 20° on Saturday.

But by Sunday thermometers are set to reach 23°, and the warmer weather is expected to continue into next week.

Temperatures are on the rise thanks to the Azores high pushing up over the UK from the Southwest.

But before the warmer weather arrives Ayrshire will remain wet until Friday with heavy showers and thunderstorms possible.

Thousands of joules of energy locked into the atmosphere could erupt into explosive thunderstorms, violent lightning strikes and torrential downpours on Thursday.

Up to two inches of rain could fall in a matter of hours prompting warnings for flash flood chaos.

But the Biblical deluge will then pave way for another sizzling burst of scorching summer sunshine and some forecasts are even predicting that a two-week hot spell could be on the way.
