Glasgow weather: Weekend-long warning as city set to be lashed by heavy rain

Glasgow is going to be under a weather warning for the majority of the weekend with the city set to be lashed by heavy rain.

The Met Office yellow weather warning for rain comes into force at 6am on Saturday and will be in place until 23.59pm on Sunday night.

The rain is expected to fall on a significant portion of the west of Scotland.

Meanwhile, forecasters warn of disruption to travel as well as potential flooding.

Ahead of the weekend, the Met Office say: "Periods of heavy rain are expected to affect southern, central and western Scotland through the weekend bringing a risk of flooding."

What to expect

  • There is a small chance that homes and businesses could be flooded, causing damage to some buildings
  • There is a small chance of fast flowing or deep floodwater causing danger to life
  • Where flooding occurs, there is a slight chance of delays or cancellations to train and bus services
  • Spray and flooding could lead to difficult driving conditions and some road closures
  • There is a small chance that some communities become cut off by flooded roads
  • There is a slight chance of power cuts and loss of other services to some homes and businesses
