Week on week infection rate drops by a third in one part of the Liverpool City Region

Knowsley's Covid-19 infection rate has dropped by a third in a week - but it still has one of the highest rates in the country.

The number of positive cases in the borough has dropped to a level last seen in late December 2020 in the latest figures from Public Health England.

There were 534 cases in Knowsley in the last week, which is 250 fewer cases than the previous week. This means the week on week change dropped by 32%.

It is the second day in a row that Knowsley's rate was below 360 - the lowest since the end of December. After December, the rate began to surge out of control, doubling week on week.

But despite today's good news of continued falling rates, Knowsley still has the 6th highest infection rate in the country.

The infection rates have dropped in the Liverpool City Region (LCR) as a whole falling to 258 for the week ending February 6.

And they have dropped in all LCR authority areas for the 24th day in a row.

The rates are falling fastest in the LCR in Halton. In Halton, there is an infection rate of 280 for the week ending February 6. There were 362 cases in Halton in the last week, which is 180 fewer cases than the previous week. This means the week on week change dropped by 33%.

In Wirral, there is an infection rate of 205 for the week ending February 6. There were 664 cases in Wirral in the last week, which is 268 fewer cases than the previous week. The week on week change dropped by 29%.

In St Helens, there is an infection rate of 353 for the week ending February 6. There were 637 cases in St Helens in the last week, which is 210 fewer cases than the previous week. The week on week change dropped by 25%.

In Liverpool, there is an infection rate of 278 for the week ending February 6. There were 1,383 cases in Liverpool in the last week, which is 354 fewer cases than the previous week. This means the week on week change dropped by 20%.

In Sefton has an infection rate of 294 for the week ending February 6. There were 812 cases in Sefton in the last week, which is 185 fewer cases than the previous week. The week on week change dropped by 18.6%.

In England, the infection rate has also dropped. There is an infection rate of 194 for the week ending February 6. There were 109,208 cases in England in the last week, which is 37,862 fewer cases than the previous week. The week on week change dropped by 26%.
