Saturday, September 7th

Stony Brook at Utah State

Line: USU -29.5

Final Score: USU 62, Stony Brook 7

Utah State Aggies did exactly what everyone thought they would do which was to demolish the hapless Sea Wolves of Stony Brook. The game was relatively close for one quarter.

After a couple of miscues, including a Jaylen Warren fumble inside the redzone, Utah State’s offense opened the floodgates and Stony Brook was almost completely unable to stop the deluge of big plays and points that followed. Aggies never trailed in a game Stony Brook had no chance in.

Jordan Love had a solid night, tossing a touchdown with no interceptions, but the real star of this game was unquestionably WR Deven Thompkins.

He rattled off big play after big play and showed everyone the Aggies still have plenty of playmakers on offense to make up for last year’s lost starters. His punt return for a touchdown early in the game sparked the team as a whole and there was no looking back.

Junior running back Jaylen Warren also impressed in this game, adding another 100+ yard rushing game to his belt. With back to back 100-yard performances, Warren is clearly making a good case to not only get more carries, but perhaps supplant Gerold Bright as the starter at running back. He busted some huge runs and was a legitimate receiving threat as well.
