Week 2 of the AAF provides some ex-Lions more chances to impress

The second week of the Alliance of American Football kicks off on Saturday, with four games spread across the weekend. Several former Lions players impressed in the AAF’s opening weekend and hope to build upon the strong debuts to keep their professional football careers building up.

Many former Lions are on the San Diego Fleet, which is coached by ex-Lions offensive coordinator Mike Martz. And some of those players with Lions ties had a strong debut.

Wideout Brian Brown, who spent the 2018 preseason with the Lions, led the Fleet with 5 catches for 66 yards. Dontez Ford hauled in 3 catches for 56 yards. Ford showed some flashes in both the 2017 and 18 training camps and preseason with Detroit.

Alex Barrett notched a half-sack and generated a couple of QB pressures in the Fleet’s loss to San Antonio, too. He was one of the Lions’ final cuts last summer.

The Fleet host the Atlanta Legends on Sunday night, a game broadcast on the NFL Network at 8 p.m. ET. The other AAF Week 2 games:

Salt Lake Stallions at Birmingham Iron, Saturday, 2 p.m. on TNT

Arizona Hotshots at Memphis Express, Saturday 8 p.m. ET on NFL Network

Orlando Apollos at San Antonio Commanders, Sunday 4 p.m. ET on CBS Sports Network
