Week 1 of the NFL preseason has already given us a horrible, dumb taunting penalty

We spent an entire year watching officials throw flags in NFL games for taunting, when many of the taunts should not have been whistled.

And maybe we entered 2022 hoping for better. Maybe the NFL told its refs to ease up a bit and not be so sensitive about something that might just be a normal post-football expression of joy and not excessive taunting after the whistle.

After what we saw from the New York Giants and New England Patriots’ preseason game Thursday? NOPE.

Giants cornerback Aaron Robinson raised up his arms after an incomplete pass into the end zone … and a flag was thrown.
