March 31--Jon Lester pitched five innings of one-hit ball Wednesday while striking out 10 as the Cubs concluded the Arizona portion of the exhibition season with a 10-0 victory over the Rockies at sold-out Sloan Park. Lester, not known for his hitting, clubbed a two-run homer to spark a seven-run rally in the third inning.
At the plate: David Ross' main priority is taking care of Lester, but Ross hit three doubles and drove in four runs, including a two-run double that capped the seven-run rally.
On the mound: It was a quiet spring for newcomer Adam Warren, who was projected to push Kyle Hendricks for the fifth spot in the rotation. Warren, however, has a resilient arm and responded with two shutout innings.
In the field: Shortstop Addison Russell ranged far to his left on one play, but his throw to first sailed and pulled Anthony Rizzo off the bag for an error in the third.
Key number: 226,163 -- Cubs home spring attendance that set a major-league record.
The quote: "The biggest thing for us is health. We're going into the season in a good spot, and hopefully that will carry over for a few months." -- Lester
