Man found guilty of killing stranger by pushing her off Scots pier 'for a bit of fun'

A man has been convicted of killing a stranger after he pushed her from a pier into water. Jacob Foster, 29, shoved Charmaine O'Donnell, later claiming it was a "bit of fun".

The 25-year-old charity worker plunged to her death at Helensburgh Pier in Argyll and Bute on April 23, 2021. Charmaine passed away due to severe neck injuries and drowning.

Foster was today convicted of culpable homicide, following a trial at the High Court in Glasgow. The killer - who suffers from a learning disability - had been accused of murder. His lawyers had lodged a special defence of diminished responsibility.

Scots dad-of-three punched woman in face during row over his flirting in pub

A dad-of-three punched a woman in the face after a row broke out over his flirting in a pub.

Jason Young struck victim Margaret Henderson outside Cafe Habana, next to Edinburgh’s Playhouse theatre, as he argued with her pals.

Earlier the 34-year-old started a confrontation in the bar after chatting up another man’s girlfriend.

SNP councillor reported to prosecutors after being accused of stealing from police station

An SNP councillor has been reported to the Crown Office after he was accused of stealing from a police station.

Allan Stubbs, who represents Coatbridge North on North Lanarkshire Council, allegedly stole property from an office in Motherwell where he works.

The convener of the council’s housing committee works for Police Scotland and is also employed part-time by Coatbridge and Chryston MSP Fulton MacGregor.

DWP adds new way for people of State Pension age to claim income boost of up to £3,300

The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) recently confirmed that new claims for Pension Credit made between April 1 and July 3, took an average of 40 days to process. This means those over State Pension age who submit an application this week, could receive financial support by the end of September.

To help even more people over 66 claim support worth around £3,300 on average each year, DWP has introduced a new interactive Pension Credit claim form which can be completed online, downloaded and posted to the Pension Service.

Glasgow filmed Batgirl movie 'cancelled' after test screenings were poorly received

It's being reported the Batgirl movie will not be released by Warner Bros., despite filming already being completed. The New York Post claims the film is being shelved after a poor reaction at test screenings.

A large part of the film was shot in Glasgow, and saw huge names flock to the city. But it’s thought the DC Comics creation is going to be completely axed, meaning it won’t hit the cinema or HBO Max streaming service and nobody will get to the the finished production.
