Wednesday’s best TV: Paragon; Confessions of a Junior Doctor

Paragon
10.40pm, ITV

In 2009, while crossing an irrigation ditch in Afghanistan, Marine commando Andy Grant was caught in a double IED blast. After a prolonged period of rehab, Grant decided to have his right leg removed below the knee. This moving film follows the Invictus Games veteran as he attempts to become the world’s fastest amputee over 10k, with help from some sporting heroes and fellow Liverpudlian Tony, his straight-talking running coach. Graeme Virtue

Me and My Dog: The Ultimate Contest
8pm, BBC2

Watching British people taking their relationships with their dogs altogether too seriously is always good fun. So the conclusion to this daft but oddly compelling canine Olympiad is inevitably enjoyable. Presented cheerfully by Chris Packham, tonight’s final sees the hounds and their owners completing a range of mental and physical tasks before a winner is crowned. But they are all winners really. Ridiculously amiable, amiably ridiculous. Phil Harrison

Tonight at the London Palladium
8pm, ITV

Never mind on-demand and binge-watching: on ITV the age of light entertainment continues like nothing, certainly not the last 30 years, ever happened. Numbers from West End shows, the stars of lightweight pop, inoffensive comedy, Bradley Walsh. All are here for your wholesome, prime-time, family entertainment. Tonight there’s swordsmanship from Samurai Hyashi, comedy from Adam Hess and music from James Blunt. John Robinson

Confessions of a Junior Doctor
9pm, Channel 4

Part two of this heartbreaking series following the young foot soldiers of Northampton General as they face the gruelling challenges of an overstretched and underfunded A&E department. While Dan attempts to confront his fear of dealing with grieving relatives, nervous Morgan, just one year out of medical school, must face up to the physical and emotional tests of her first stint in emergency, and not let it overwhelm her. Ali Catterall

Rhod Gilbert’s Work Experience
10pm, BBC2

The comic-turned-perpetual polymath is trying his hand at floristry this week, beginning his new role in Porthcawl, south Wales. He is right in time for a frenzied Valentine’s Day rush. Can he keep his cool, or even just tell the real and plastic blooms apart? After a baptism of fire and thorns, Rhod’s colleagues enter him into the heats of the Chelsea flower show, where he demonstrates his PG-rated creativity. Gentle, with a risque edge. Hannah J Davies

Korean War: The Battle of Chosin
9pm, PBS America

Hopefully not aptly timed documentary recalling a previous US attempt to pacify North Korea. The Battle of Chosin Reservoir in 1950, saw the US-led UN force surprised – along with the rest of the world – by the abrupt entry into the conflict of the People’s Republic of China. This serviceable PBS documentary tells the story of the UN troops’ efforts to extricate themselves from encirclement in brutal winter conditions. Andrew Mueller

Midnight Sun
10pm, Sky Atlantic

Above all, this French-Swedish drama has been as full of natural light as its title suggests, not visually noirish despite its generally grisly subject matter: a flayed body on a beach is set against a beautiful mountain backdrop; a bullet-ridden skull is retrieved from a glistening lake. In tonight’s penultimate episode, the ill-fated 22 face what could be a final, elaborately planned reckoning, as the detectives stumble on a remarkable literary discovery. David Stubbs

Film choice

The Rum Diary (Bruce Robinson, 2011), 1.55am, Channel 4

As the director-writer of grubby classic Withnail and I, Robinson is just the man to realise Hunter S Thompson’s memoirish novel on the big screen. Johnny Depp, who played the gonzo journalist in Fear and Loathing, has great fun as Thompson’s alter ego Paul Kemp, adrift among drunk scribes and corrupt politicos in 1960 Puerto Rico.

Live sport

World Championship Snooker 10am, BBC2. Day 12 from the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield.

IPL Cricket: Rising Pune Supergiants v Kolkata Knight Riders 3pm, Sky Sports 2. More T20 from India.

Premier League Football: Crystal Palace v Tottenham Hotspur 7.30pm, Sky Sports 1. Can Spurs keep the pressure on Chelsea at Big Sam’s much-improved Palace?
