Champions League Football: Roma v Manchester City
7pm, Sky Sports 5

With City now among the Premier League elite, it’s tempting to suspect continued Champions League failure offers some form of warped nostalgia for longstanding City fans used to watching keenly fought relegation scraps at a damp Maine Road. Yet, for all their struggles in Europe, a win for City (difficult though that may be without the injured Sergio Agüero) would propel them into the knockout stage. Mark Jones

The Lost Honour Of Christopher Jefferies
9pm, ITV

Jason Watkins plays the ex-teacher falsely accused of the murder of Joanna Yeates by the British press. With a Peter Morgan screenplay and Roger Michell directing, your expectations might be lofty, but this more than meets them. It’s a meticulous masterclass from everyone involved and Watkins gives a staggeringly good performance as the bewildered former teacher hurled into the spotlight by a collective lust for “a loner” to punish. An important piece of television. Concludes Thursday. Julia Raeside

Bear’s Wild Weekend With Ben Stiller
9pm, Channel 4

Grylls bags himself an impressive A-lister for his latest Wild Weekend, buddying up with Hollywood’s very own Ben Stiller for an action-packed mini-break up to the wilds of Scotland. Once the duo have landed on the shores of the majestic Loch Harport on the Isle of Skye, soon enough they are roped together and scrambling like old chums, plunging into murky caves, hoisting themselves up sheer rock faces and bravely leaping from 40ft cliffs into the freezing north Atlantic. Ben Arnold

How Safe Are My Drugs?
9pm, BBC3

Canadian DJ, producer and Radio 1 presenter B Traits spends a substantial chunk of her time in nightclubs, so she is well-placed for this exploration into how much those who buy and sell drugs in the club scene actually know about what they’re buying or selling. She meets dealers and users in the UK and in Ibiza, and shines a light on why drug-related deaths in the UK appear to be on the rise. She also meets Dr Z, the Israel-born mathematician who created mephedrone. BA

Spike Milligan: Love, Light And Peace
9pm, BBC4

Drawing extensively on his own words, home movies and the recollections of family and friends, this is a doc that beautifully tells the story of Spike Milligan’s life, including much on his battles with depression. And does far more, too, because 90 minutes in the company of The Goon Show’s chief creator acts not just as a reminder of how influential he was, but makes you keenly miss his anarchic spirit. Followed by Spike Milligan: Assorted Q (10.30pm), a compilation of sketches from his BBC shows. Jonathan Wright

America’s Fugitive Family
10pm, Channel 4

It’s been called America’s longest-running police standoff: the 15-year flight from justice undertaken by bail-skipping John Joe Gray and family, following a traffic violation. In this extraordinary documentary, British film-makers are granted access to the God-fearing Grays and their grandchildren (some of whom have never seen the outside world) on their remote, electricity-free Texas compound. It’s a sad, dark and disturbing portrait, evoking the ghosts of Manson, Jonestown and Waco. Ali Catterall

My Crazy Christmas Obsession
10pm, Channel 5

Seventy per cent of US homes display a tree during the holiday season. This documentary meets those Americans for whom that level of engagement was never going to be enough. Shay from Tulsa has 168 trees, and starts decorating them in October. Charlie from New Jersey, meanwhile, has a festive lightshow that costs him $40,000 a year. At the very least, this is food for thought for anyone who thinks Christmas gets earlier each year; Charlie and wife Connie start discussing the music for their show in January. John Robinson

The Legacy
10pm, Sky Arts 1

The roiling family drama, equal parts Ibsen and Festen, continues, with Veronika’s children trying to comprehend the meaning of their late mother’s will and testament. Gro presses on with the plan to convert the family home into a museum, keeping the truth about the inheritance papers buried. Meanwhile, Signe angrily confronts her adoptive parents over the photo that showed her playing at Veronika’s house as a child, and Frederick is spooked by the sight of his mother’s ghost.
